126 C2 G. VILLENEUVE SAN MARINO GP 1982

The 126 C2 was unveiled to the press in Maranello on January 6^th, 1982. It was a development of the previous model and was about 20 kg lighter. It retained the engine solution with twin overhead compressors with just one waste-gate valve. Each compressor received the exhaust gas from a line of cylinders and fed the opposite line to achieve a kind of fluid dynamic balance. Villeneuve competed with the car in four Grand Prix in the 1982 F1 season. He posted record times in testing with the new car and began the season promisingly with several solid results. During the 1982 San Marino GP, Villeneuve arrived 2^nd on the podium but, unfortunately, he died two weeks later while qualifying for the Belgian Gran Prix.
